Blade Runner 2049...

For someone like me seeing BR 2049 (Blade runner 2049) without watching the original was, i feel a mistake. To describe my experience of the film i will break it down into 4 main sections: Storyline, Cinematography, Acting Quality and Sounds.

The film's storyline was very confusing and, to be honest, i felt like you wouldn't understand the story without previous knowledge of who the characters were and their importance/ relationships with other characters. The film starts off with what looked like a quick summery over 5 sentances quickly explaining what happened in the last film, for those newcomers.

When looking at the way the film was shot, you can see the director Denis Villeneuve had worked exceptionally to create a sense of mystery as well as loneliness; not only for the characters, but also for the locations in the film. In the beginning we see K (Ryan Gosling) kill Sapper Morton (Dave Bautista), the area this is taking place is a dry, sandy plain, the colours we see are mainly wooden browns and oranges, this creates the boring yet creepy feel to this deserted place. We also see where K lives, on the outside it looks like a cramped dirty suburban city, but once we enter his apartment like home, we see bright white, which creates the clean appearance, which contrasts highly with the dirty exterior.

The acting in the film was, in my mind bland: in a good way. K is portrayed to be cyborg-ish, but more human than cyborg...or programmed to feel human, knowing its a robot?. Ryan Gosling pulls of this emotion lacking body, who thought the film realises he is not a android thing, he is instead a real human, this is when he has a little cry and goes on a journey to find his past, where he meets an older Blade Runner, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), Rick, the protagonist of the first Blade Runner, has been in hiding from the LAPD for 29 years, and shows that he is still as flexible as he was over 30 years ago...Ford Shows Deckards angst when meeting, what is basically a younger 'model' of himself, his happiness at the end of the film when he finds his daughter is a touching moment that we share with the character.

When it comes to sound and soundtrack, i feel like they over did it with the engine rumbles, ever time K's hoverer flew over i felt my ears being corrupted, especially in the scene whereK is comparing DNA strands, there is a high pitched whine which sounds somewhat like white noise, and has the same effect as white noise: ear pain.
