CIU 111 (Week 3) - How can social media increase my careers status?

Social Media is the way much of the population communicate with each other. Whilst social media is one of the most common use of the internet, its also one of the largest areas for advertising. This is because over 4.3 Billion people use Facebook (as of this year) and there is advertising space on the sides.

For example, above is a screenshot from my Facebook, I lightly scroll down my feed and I am greeted by a hall of ads. This is a move from Facebook to allow people to advertise on their site where the advertisers are able to be seen.

Not only can ads be posted on social media but so can pages dedicated to artists. Their official websites can be linked. Basically all the information for a project/art are usually found on social media.

An example of boosting a career through social media is this. I have a photography page on Facebook that has allowed my following to double as my posts are all in one place, where people can view them, like them, and share them. It's undeniable that Facebook is the largest social media platform, then its Youtube, which is also the largest and most easiest to profit off. If people are creating short films and episodes and they upload them to YouTube they can make small amounts of cash on them. The math for YouTube money is for every 1,000 views you earn one penny, which isn't much, but if you look at a Youtube such as KSI, he makes a video (he also has 18 million subscribers) and it gets 6 million views, thats 6,000 pounds in the bank. Youtube also offers ads, where businesses TV trailers are shown.

Personally, my photography career has been boosted by putting myself on several social media sites. Between 2016 and 2018 my viewer rate has gone from 20 views per month to 42 and my subscriber count has increased from 183 in 2017 to 245 in 2018. Hopefully this illustrates how the use of social media can boost the size of a following and the range of information spread.
